How does it feel to be in Hypnosis?
People often wonder what it's like to be in a hypnotic trance, but did you know we enter waking hypnosis 1000s of times every day. When we’re on autopilot behind the wheel, maybe even performing certain routine tasks at work, watching TV on an evening.
When we enter a hypnotic state, our subconscious minds become highly suggestive. Some of the times when our minds are highly susceptible and open to suggestions are those times at night when we are falling asleep (known as the hypnogogic) and in those few moments before naturally waking up, when you feel you’re neither asleep nor awake (know as the hypnopompic). This is why it’s sometimes a good idea to listen to a hypnosis audio before falling asleep, so that the suggestions can embed themselves into your subconscious overnight.
Hypnotherapy allows us to access the subconscious part of the mind to work with existing neural pathways, reprogramming them and often creating new neural pathways that are more beneficial to us and our well-being.
Basically, whilst your unconscious mind is in that wonderfully hypnotic state, it is open to accepting suggestions that will help it without your conscious mind realising.
You are always fully in control when in a hypnotic state. The idea of hypnosis as a form of therapy is to feed positive suggestions into your subconscious – an upgrade, if you like. The subconscious is like a child, it will never accept or act upon suggestions that it doesn’t agree with or like the sound of. Who doesn’t want an upgrade?
If at any point you feel uncomfortable, you can simply wake yourself up. Everyone’s experience of hypnosis is different, and whatever you feel during your hypnotherapy session is right for you.
Hypnotherapy can help with anything and everything - whatever your issue is, just ask and there will be a way that we can work to fix that issue. It really is an amazing therapy - all you need is a belief that it will work and to be open to it.
